Detailed Description
SLEEPERS (railroads ties)
Wooden sleepers are widely used in the construction and repairing of both main and local railways. A number of significant advantages of wooden railroad ties over reinforced concrete railroad ties are the only use case in a number of cases. Among these advantages we can highlight the following:
-wood holds the end nail better than reinforced concrete (due to elasticity of wood)
– wooden railroad ties are repairable and it is very easy to repair both ties and section or the entire way
-wooden railroad ties are not subjected to destruction under influence of “freeze -defrost-freeze” cycles
– mechanical properties and natural elasticity of wood are the guarantee of lower wearing process of the rolling equipment
– wooden railroad ties are much cheaper and more accessible than concrete railroad ties
– wooden railroad ties more comfortable and cheaper during transportation and laying of track
– only wooden railroad ties can be laid in the case of turning radius of track curve
– the costs for uninstallation and recycling of wooden railroad ties disproportionately are much less than similar costs for reinforced concrete railroad ties
And so on
The whole of the above mentioned factors are the main reason of wide use of wooden railroad ties around the world in the construction and repairing of both local and main railways.
According to form of cross section the railroad ties are divided into three types:
Cutoff railroad ties – when all four sides are sawed
Half cutoff railroad ties – when just three sides are sawed
Non cutoff – when two opposite sides are sawed and other two sides can be sawed just partially
b) RAILROAD TIES MANUFACTURING PROCESS
It is used raw materials for railroad ties in manufacturing process which is purchased from lumber companies from Northern Urals, Siberia and north of Russia. Such wood is better suited to the geometric parameters and mechanical characteristics considerably exceeding the quality of wood taken from a midland of Russia. At the same time it is well impregnated and this allows protecting it against decay and destroying factors.
All raw materials for railroad ties that come to the plant are subjected to incoming inspection in order to meet requirements of GOST 78-2004 (railroad ties) and GOST 8816-2003 (crossing sleepers). Each railroad tie and sleeper is checked for compliance with the specified technical conditions. Only raw materials of high quality go into the manufacturing.
Raw materials for railroad ties go into warehouse where it is subjected to drying just after it were selected and sorted on types. Wood with moisture content not less than 22% goes to manufacturing. It is possible to store in the warehouse up to 100 thousands of railroad ties.
At the requirement of customer strengthening of end buts of sleepers should be made with flat topped or S-shaped clenches in order to protect wood against checking. This method allows increasing the operating life up to 30-50%.
Unimpregnated railroad tie materials are loaded into autoclave in order to impregnate it. The length of each railroad tie material should be of 22 m and its capacity of 90 m3. The impregnation is made in accordance with GOST 20022.5-93 and “Technological process of wood impregnation on Russia MPS treating plants” dated 15.04.2002.
Railroad tie materials are impregnated with coal-tar oil (creosote) or with ZHTK antiseptic with the method “pressure-pressure-vacuum” under pressure of 8 atmospheric and temperature more than 100 C. This method allows obtaining the depth of impregnation up to 5-8 mm and more and ensures reliable preservation of wood.
After impregnation the railroad tie materials go to the warehouses and then they are shipped to consumers in accordance with any of their wishes to the types. The average period of service of railroad tie materials manufactured by “Ryazan treating plant” OJSC is 12-15 years.
Besides impregnation railroad tie, our enterprise manufactures full range of railroad tie materials:
– crossing sleepers GOST 8816-2003, series A3-1 (1/11), A4-1 (1/9), B2-2 (1/9) and other distribution diagrams on request of consumers
– bridge tie GOST 28450-90 with section of 200×240 mm and 220×260 mm
– railroad ties for subway GOST 22830
– semi railroad tie for crane runway of any type and size.
